About The Dublin Insider

The Dublin Tour, Done Differently

My name is Evan. I've spent over a decade getting under the skin of this city as a guide and a researcher.

Before starting The Dublin Insider, I guided at two of Dublin's most respected cultural institutions: 14 Henrietta Street, the award-winning social history museum, and the National Gallery of Ireland. Guiding at places like these means your work gets checked constantly, by curators, historians, and visitors who know the subject cold. It's a standard that stays with you.

For five years I worked with local government organisations on community arts projects, which took me well beyond the tourist circuit into the neighbourhoods and communities that give this city its deep character. That work sits behind every route I've built.

Further back than that, I spent five years with Dublin's top-rated cycling tour company, Dublin City Bike Tours. Cycling every corner of the city, day after day, gave me a grounding in the city’s history, its neighbourhoods, and its quirks that you don't get any other way, with the added bonus of having every junction's traffic light pattern permanently lodged in my memory!

The Tour Guiding Style

This isn't a lecture. The knowledge is there if you want the long, footnoted version, but the delivery is built around storytelling, not recitation. History, art, sport, contemporary Dublin life - it all lands differently when it's told well, and that's what these tours are built around.

That instinct comes from more than guiding. Years of performing live, making art, working with audiences in different contexts - it all feeds into how these tours are shaped and delivered. The result is something with a bit of personality to it. Depth without the stuffiness.

You'll leave knowing things you weren't expecting to know. And you'll actually enjoy getting there.

What to expect

Small groups, every time. Never a crowd of thirty where you’re only able to half-listen at the back.

The same guide on every tour. You know who you're getting before you show up.

Routes built from scratch. Nothing here came from a template or another Dublin tour’s itinerary.

No upselling, no commissions, no detours into shops you didn't ask to visit. Ask for recommendations afterwards and you'll get honest ones.

Just the city, properly told.
