Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Dublin Insider tours different?
We focus on genuine depth and original storytelling instead of repeating the same highlights as everyone else.
Routes are built from scratch, drawing on over a decade of guiding experience in the city’s cultural institutions and community arts projects.
Small groups only, consistent quality, and no upselling or detours into shops. It’s the kind of experience a well-connected local would recommend to friends who want more than the standard tour.
How big are the groups?
We keep groups small — usually a maximum of 12-14 people. This ensures everyone can hear clearly, ask questions, and get the most out of the tour.
What about walking distance and accessibility?
Tours cover roughly 2–2.5 km at a leisurely pace with at least one rest stop. They suit most fitness levels, but let us know in advance about any mobility needs so we can make the experience work as well as possible.
Are the tours suitable for families or children?
We warmly welcome families and children on most tours. Ages 8+ works particularly well for the TV & Film and art tours, while the Liberties tour is better suited to 14+. The Cultural Orientation Tour is 18+ only.
If you have younger children or any specific questions, please get in touch - we’re happy to advise and help find the best fit.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Because groups are small, spots often fill 3–5 days ahead, sometimes faster in busy periods. Last-minute availability is limited.
What is your cancellation and weather policy?
We offer a full 100% refund for cancellations up to 24 hours before the tour. We run in typical Dublin rain, but cancel only for official storm warnings. We never cancel due to low bookings — the tour goes ahead even for a single person.
Who leads the tours?
The same guide leads every tour. With a background spanning arts programming, tenement history, gallery education, and community work across Dublin, the focus is on real insight and engaging storytelling rather than rote facts.
Do you offer private, or corporate tours?
Yes. We regularly run tailored private tours for families, friend groups, corporate teams, and educational visits. We can adapt existing routes or create something fully custom. Contact us to discuss options and availability.
Do you welcome questions on tours?
We love them. Questions add real richness to the experience and often lead to the best moments.
All our tours are thoroughly researched and grounded in both academic sources and years of lived experience in the city, so we are comfortable going deep, whether it is what daily life feels like for a 21st century Dubliner, the nuances of Northern Ireland, or anything else that sparks your curiosity.
These tours are shaped by storytelling, genuine connection and discussion rather than following a fixed script. Of course on a bigger group it may not be possible to chase down every single thread, but we always do our best. If we do not know something on the spot we will say so honestly rather than filling the air with vague anecdotes or half remembered facts.
What should I wear or bring?
Comfortable walking shoes are essential. A water bottle, sunscreen, and a light rain jacket are smart — the weather can shift quickly. There’s always a rest stop, and with small groups we can usually stop for refreshments if needed.
Who are our tours best suited for?
These tours suit curious visitors who enjoy good stories, context, and seeing Dublin properly rather than just ticking off the usual landmarks.
The pace is relaxed but engaging. Whether you are here for the first time, returning, or if you’ve lived in the city for years, you’ll find yourself noticing details and connections that make the city feel even richer.
Are there any other requirements?
Just curiosity and reasonably comfortable shoes! No other special equipment or fitness levels are required for standard tours.
